This series is an hommage to my childhood.
My grandfather came to Suomenlinna Islands (on the right) during the second world war to clear the mines of the Soviet Army, and stayed there after the war. Then my mother was born here. Later, she met my father who was in the Navy.
My father used to fish whitefish in the Kustaanmiekka for the Helsinki market, in the
mornings before going to work, from early spring to the autumn. It was during this time that i was born in the light of June in 1967.
Kustaanmiekka is named after the King of Sweden ”Gustav”. It is also called the ”Gibraltar” of the North. As all ships sailing to and from the town have to pass through this very narrow place.
